Though India won their first ODI match of the Sri Lanka tour of India 2023 by 67 runs, many cricket experts and fans remain unhappy over the team’s decision of dropping Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav for the match.

Ishan Kishan who scored a record-breaking double hundred in the ODI against Bangladesh has been dropped while Suryakumar Yadav who bagged his 3rd century in the T20I series against Sri Lanka has also failed to find a spot in the playing 11.
Everyone expects the selectors to include the duo in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka. Turning down the expectations, both aggressive duo has been dropped from the playing 11. Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif is one among the many to feel for the duo.
Kaif took to Twitter to back the duo and wrote: “Slightly uncomfortable with the prospect of watching an Indian team today without last ODI’s double hundred scorer, Ishan Kishan, and last T20’s centurion Suryakumar Yadav. Hope they remain motivated. #INDvSL,” Kaif tweeted.

Apart from this heartbroken incident, the Indian team staged an extraordinary performance in both bat and ball. Winning the toss Sri Lanka decides to bowl first where Rohit Sharma who recovered from an injury last year walked to the crease along with Gill to open the inning.
Gill and Rohit Sharma made a steady start and led India to score 143 runs for the first wicket. Gill scored 70 runs before losing his wicket to Shanaka in the 20th over. Following his dismissal, Rohit Sharma was soon dismissed for 83 runs in the 24th over.
Following both openers’ wickets, Virat and Shreyas Iyer continue the inning. Virat Kohli scored 113 runs and registered his 73rd century which equals Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most centuries in home ground.
Virat took only 99 innings to tall Sachin’s 20 hundred in home ground. Notably, the legendary cricketer Sachin took 160 innings to reach this feat.
It is worth mentioning that Virat scored a ton against Bangladesh last month during the third ODI. Virat was dismissed by Rajitha for 113, which came of 87 balls.
With Umran Malik’s 3 wickets followed by Siraj’s 2 wickets, India thrashed Sri Lanka by 67 runs and leads the 3-match ODI series. The second ODI match of the series will be played on January 11 at Eden Garden, Kolkata.
