A new coaching team is set to take over in July with Rhodes expected to be part of it. The BCCI will announce the appointment of the new head coach before the end of this month and Gautam Gambhir is believed to take over the position of head coach. The next fielding coach tenure will begin on July 01, 2024, and will till December 31, 2027.

According to reports, Rhodes didn’t get any formal offer from BCCI, but he is one of the competitors for the position of fielding coach. Previously in the year 2019, he applied for the position, but R Sridhar was reappointed, for then head coach Ravi Shastri wanted Sridhar to be part of his coaching staff.

The head coach usually picked his assistants and Shastri picked Arun as the bowling coach and Sridhar as the fielding coach. Rhodes was considered one of the greatest fielders in history and is currently committed as the fielding coach of the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants.

Previously, he worked in the same position at Mumbai Indians for nine years. Five years ago, Rhodes applied for India’s new fielding coach job he said, “Yes, I have applied for the position of India’s new fielding coach. My wife and I love the country, and it has already given us so much… We have two children born in India.” He also spoke about adding “a few more things” to the coaching process.

Currently, Rahul Dravid is the head coach of the Indian cricket team while T Dilip takes the fielding coach’s duty. With a new coaching team set to take over, it is unsure that Dilip will be reapplying for the role and is ready to work under the new head coach of Team India.

A few days ago, Dili spoke about the improvement of fielders during his time saying, “It’s heartening to see the bowlers doing their fielding roles very well. This adds a lot to the whole fielding group. We see bowlers standing in hot spots. This gives Rohit Sharma the versatility to keep good fielders in all positions,” concluded Dilip.
