    Joe Root Becomes England’s Highest Run Scorer in Tests; Surpasses Aaron Finch

    England batter Joe Root has become the highest run-getter for England in Tests during the first test of England’s tour of Pakistan 2024.

    He broke former captain Alastair Cook’s record. During his 12-year international career, Cook played 161 Tests and amassed 12,472 runs. Root is playing his 147th test against England in Multan against Pakistan and needed 71 runs to surpass the England legend.

    Root smashed his 35th test ton to put England back on track on Day 03 of the 1st Test against Pakistan in Multan.

    Earlier in the day, Root became England’s highest run scorer in Tests and fifth-highest of all time, when he drove Pakistan seamer Aamer Jamal for a straight boundary to reach 71.

    Before lunch, Root was unbeaten with 72 runs while Ben Duckett was on a rapid 80 runs off just 67 balls.

    Coming to the match, Pakistan posted a total of 556 runs in the first innings of the match. Responding to the mammoth total, Zak Crawley and Joe Root forged a partnership for 113 runs before Zak Crawley sent out for 78 runs.

    Joe Root and Ben Duckett joined hands putting a 136-run partnership for the second wicket. After the dismissal of Duckett, Joe Root and Harry Brook are building a partnership and aiming to close the gap between the sides at Multan Cricket Stadium.
