After Sai Sudharsan signed a contract with Surrey for County Stint this season, the Indian cricketer Jayant Yadav joins Middlesex for the last four games of the County Championship.
Jayant Yadav Joins Middlesex for County Championship
The Off-Spinner all-rounder Jayant Yadav has been playing for Haryana and had played two games for Warwickshire last season. The 33-year-old player had featured in many games for India out of which his Test performance in the 2016-17 season remains his career best.
He is a player who relied on his own strength and accuracy rather than variations in bowling. His batting skill in the long format adds an advantage to his profile.
Jayant Yadav had played 6 test matches, taking 16 wickets for 29.06and scored 248 runs. His best figure was against New Zealand where he had 4/49 in December 2021, at Wankhede Stadium.
He has taken 205 wickets in his first-class career, with a best of 7/58 in the Ranji Trophy in 2019-20.
The County Championship has reached an interesting phase, where few players will be missing the final fixtures of the league as they will be featuring international matches. On this occasion, Jayant Yadav agreed to play for Middlesex after Sai Sudharsan joined Surrey.
After developments in the contracts, Middlesex’s Director of Cricket Alan Coleman said he wanted to strengthen the team after the South African player returned to his home South Africa for international matches.
“With Pieter Malan returning home to South Africa we wanted to bolster the squad with another quality signing ahead of four crucial matches that lay ahead of us in September,” said Coleman. “We feel that spin will be an important factor in September and the opportunity to sign an international spinner of Jayant’s quality was too good an opportunity to turn down.
“He brings us that extra bit of something you get from an international cricketer, experience, quality, know-how – all attributes that will prove hugely valuable to us in the coming games. We can’t wait to have him with us and wish him every success here over the coming month.”
When asked about joining the Middlesex franchise Yadav said, “I am honored and excited to join the prestigious Middlesex County Cricket Club for the upcoming Championship games and be a part of its rich cricketing history.
“I enjoyed my experience of playing county cricket last year and am eagerly looking forward to the new stint with Middlesex and contributing to the Club’s success.”
Earlier this week, Prithvi Shaw was forced to cut short his stint for Northamptonshire due to his knee injury which he sustained during the match against Durham. The club has confirmed Shaw’s return for the next season.
