Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been nominated for the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Award alongside Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Kamindu Mendis.
Bumrah found his place in the list right after his unmatchable performance for the team India in red ball cricket. In 13 matches this year, Bumrah picked up 71 wickets and tops the charts for the most wickets taken this year ahead of England’s Gus Atkinson who holds the second spot with 52 scalps.
Jasprit Bumrah made a leap in the wickets count with his aggressive performance in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 where he bagged 30 wickets so far with a match to play.
India stands behind in the series after losing the fourth test at Melbourne and in pressure to win the final game set to be played in Sydney between January 3 and 7 next year.
England’s Joe Root who scored 1556 runs from 17 tests this year also made his way into the nomination list. It was also the fifth instance of Root scoring over 1000 Test runs in a calendar year.
Along with Joe Root, his teammate Harry Brook who amazed 1100 runs from 12 tests has also been nominated for the award. The 25-year-old scored 1100 runs at a strike rate of 85.00, comprising three fifties and four hundred plus scores, which also included a maiden triple century which he scored against Pakistan in Multan.
Sri Lanka’s new middle-order batter Kamindu Mendis paved his way into the nomination list by scoring 1049 runs from nine tests this year. Mendis was also the sixth batter to score over 1000 runs in Men’s Tests across the year.
Notably, Mendis become the joint-third quickest to score 1000 Test runs – equalling Sir Don Bradman’s 13-innings mark to reach the milestone.
With nine categories in total, cricket fans around the world have the opportunity to cast their votes and help decide the winners of the ICC Awards 2024.
