The Recovery of Bumrah gives hope and if it continues to go on as planned, there might be a chance for him to be available for selection for Asia Cup 2023 set to be played in September. Out of the players who got injured, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul are said to be available for the selection.

Shreyas Iyer is yet to recover, and India is looking at Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav as cover. It is understood that Bumrah after coming from Surgery in March, has now started Bowling at NCA Nets (National Cricket Academy) and his recovery is going smoothly so far.

There is a possibility for the player to join the World Cup, but the Indian team Management and Medical team are not seem to be rushing him to be in World Cup.

He hadn’t played since last September due to a recurring back injury, he resurfaced during a T20 match against Australia, which made him to undergo surgery for the back-stress reaction, and after completing his rehabilitation is slowly increasing his bowling Workload.

The surgery was held in New Zealand in March, but even after three months, Bumrah’s future is still to be unknown with no timeframe to be shown for his return.

Statement about Bumrah Injury and Recovery

By things looked bleak for the fans, a positive report arrived which gives Indian fans a ray of hope to see the India pacer Bumrah back in action, possibly for the World Cup. On Tuesday, as the much-awaited World Cup 2023 schedule was announced by the ICC, Team India received an unexpected yet promising update on Bumrah.

As per a report given by the news agency, Bumrah, who began his rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy has resumed bowling. The 29-year-old is apparently bowling seven overs per day at the NCA and is said to recover is well as expected from the injury.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Bumrah might make his return to the national team for the Ireland T20Is following the West Indies tour, but those plans have been dropped for now.

When will Bumrah return, or will he ever be the same bowler are questions that have been haunting Indian cricket for almost a year, but at least this development is a relief to every Bumrah fan.

“For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But it can be said that Bumrah is recovering well and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets.

It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period. He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then,” a source tracking the development told PTI.

The update of Bumrah’s bowling at the NCA is good as he can make 5-7 overs in his practice, the BCCI should not make the mistake of rushing him back, as it can aggravate it further. In fact, former coach of India Ramji Srinivasan is against it and suggests that Bumrah should be given maximum time to heal and recover completely, even if he have to miss the World Cup.

“He should not be hurried. Playing practice matches at the NCA is a good step as it will help tune his body to the demands of a match. But he should be made to play in some actual (domestic) matches before bringing him to top-level cricket.

The demands of international cricket are different and the body should be absolutely ready to take that amount of workload. Recovering from a stress fracture is a delicate exercise and Bumrah should be allowed maximum recovery time.”

As per India World Cup 2023 schedule, India will play their first game against Australia on October 8 in Chidambaram, Chennai.
