“I’m Still Fit Enough to Play” James Anderson Hopes for return to T20 format

The former England pacer James Anderson is considering making a comeback in T20 cricket. The idea of Anderson gracing in the IPL 2025 has gained the attention of Cricket fans.

This comes after Anderson expressed his interest in T20 cricket. James Anderson made his international retirement on July 12, 2024. His retirement will reflect his contributions to test cricket. Anderson hasn’t featured in T20 cricket since 2014 as he shifted his focus towards Test Cricket.

However, observing T20 leagues, particularly The Hundred 2024, the former fast bowler has expressed his desire to play in a short format.

“Once this summer is done I can sit down and think if I want to play cricket in some shape or form again next year. I’m quite open at the minute to thoughts of any sort of cricket, I’m still fit enough to play and I’m not shutting myself off to anything,”

James Anderson’s career is filled with unfathomable records, particularly in Test cricket. Playing 40 T20 matches, he claimed 41 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47. Despite having an impressive record in T20s, he decided to make way for emerging talent.

Anderson’s performance in the County circuit and his role as a mentor will reflect his unfathomable passion for the game. “It’s hard to know if there’ll be any interest from people wanting me to play in that sort of thing so we’ll wait and see. I know it’s a while since I played it and my age will get brought up again but I really feel I’ll be good enough to play that form of cricket,” he further added.

On this occasion, speculation about Anderson’s participation in IPL 2025 is fueled by his recent revelations and the interest from various franchise teams. The IPL is known for its high intensity and dynamic nature while Anderson’s lack of recent White-ball cricket experience might raise questions, his tactics and ability to win the new ball could make him an asset.

“I still feel like I was made to bowl quickly, to be a bowler, so while it’s still functioning, use it,” said Anderson.

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes has also expressed interest in having Anderson as a mentor of the team during the Ashes. But Anderson has not yet decided whether coaching aligns with his passion.

“It’s still a long way away and I still need to see if this is what I’m passionate about. Stokesy and England need to decide if I’m the right man for the job too. So far, so good, but you never know,” Ben Stokes said.
