The wk-batter Jaker Ali has been ruled out for the second test of the South Africa tour of Bangladesh 2024 due to a concussion. Hence, the board has brought an uncapped player order batsman Mahidul Islam Ankon into the Bangladesh squad as a replacement for Jaker Ali.
Ali played a vital role for Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the first game, his absence would leave a massive void for the team.
Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update, Jaker Ali, confirming that the Keeper-batter has faced a concussion and still isn’t fit. He also mentioned that the recovery may take some time and the youngster won’t feature in the second game.
“Jaker Ali had suffered a concussion while batting in practice yesterday (October 27). He has a history of concussions and is still showing symptoms. Given his previous concussion record, recovery may take some time. Based on the clinical findings, he has been ruled out of the second Test,” said national team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.
In the absence of Jaker Ali, the Bangladesh National Cricket Team have added Wicketkeeper batter Mahidul Islam to the team. The youngster has earned his maiden call-up after his impressive performances in the domestic circuit.
Playing the first-class match for Dhaka Division, he slammed three centuries for the NCL team. He has also played one game for Bangladesh A against Pakistan A in August this year and would be hoping to continue the same form for the national team as well.
He will be high on confidence going into the second test against the South Africa Cricket Team. He smashed 118 runs in the Sylhet Division last week. This will be the second replacement for the team as earlier, they called up pace bowler Khaled Ahmed to replace Taskin Ahmed.
Bangladesh suffered a seven-wicket victory in the first test against the South Africa National Cricket Team. As a result, they moved to the 8th position on the WTC points table.
The hosts will be aiming for a victory in the second test and are keen to make an impact in the series. The second test of the test series has begun at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
