In the crucial test at Sydney, India opted to bat first after winning the toss but the Indian opening duo failed to lay a strong foundation as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul dismissed for 10 and 4 respectively.
Ahead of the test, Indian test captain Rohit Sharma opted out while BCCI named Jasprit Bumrah as the captain and included Shubman Gill in the AUS vs IND 5th test playing 11. With much expectations around the Indian cricket team, the visitors were expected to reach a decent number in the first inning.
But the aggressive Australian bowling attack left the Indian batting unit unnerved. With a couple of wickets in the first session of the fifth test, India failed to showcase the expected start.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc drew the first blood for India by dismissing KL Rahul for 4 while Jaiswal who scored 80 plus runs in both innings of the Melbourne test fell cheaply for 10 runs.
Following the duo’s dismissal, Indian star batter Virat Kohli who hasn’t performed up to the mark in the BGT 2024-25 stands alongside Shubman Gill and is expected to retain his form back.
Speaking of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Australia have an upper hand with a couple of victories while the visitors are under pressure to win the test to carry the trophy home.

The Indian cricket team is scheduled to tour Australia to play five tests between 22 November 2024 and 7 January 2025. Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be the first Test series between India and Australia comprising five matches since 1992.
