Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code Of Conduct Article 2.20.
Jadeja Fined 25 Percent Match Fee
Ravindra Jadeja was found to have breached Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Jadeja admitted the offence and accepted the sanction. For this offence, one demerit point has been added to Jadeja’s disciplinary record along with a 25 per cent match fee fine.
As per a report, “Jadeja has been found guilty of a Level 1 offence as per the ICC Code of conduct. He applied the cream on his left index finger for swelling without the umpire’s permission during the first innings, and gets a demerit point for it, while also being fined 25 per cent of his match fee”.
The match referee was satisfied the cream was not applied to the ball as an artificial substance to alter its condition. Before the explanation, Jadeja’s move has been questioned for ball tampering for which Indian management explained the reason.
But match referee Andy Pycroft deemed that the 33-year-old had not used the substance on the ball.
“In reaching his decision to sanction the player … the match referee was satisfied that the cream was applied to the finger purely for medical purposes,” read an ICC statement issued after India’s innings-and-132-run win.
“The cream was not applied as an artificial substance to the ball and consequently, it did not change the condition of the ball, which would have been in breach of … the ICC playing conditions.”
India on the other hand won the first match and leads the 4-match Tests series by 1-0. The second Test match will be played on February 17 in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
