Shahid Afridi slams Harmanpreet Kaur actions over the umpire’s decision
The Indian captain Harmanpreet actions have terrified the cricketing world with her rude behaviour in the 3rd ODI test. Her decision to smash the stumps following her dismissal created a negative impact due to which she got a suspension of 2 international games.
The veteran cricketer has been slammed by many in the Indian spectrum over her behaviour, and now, even former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has criticized her.
According to his ICC statement, Harmanpreet was fined 75% of her match fee for breaching the ICC code of conduct. She also received four demerit points due to which she was suspended from two international matches.
As per the rule, a player who gets four demerit points that convert into two suspension points should be sidelined for one Test or Two ODIs or 2 T20Is that follow the incident.
But Shahid Afridi says that the Indian batter should’ve been fined 100 percent of her match fee saying that the punishment should be harsh which will set an example for the future.
“This is not just India. We’ve seen these things in the past as well. Although, we don’t see this often in women’s cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under ICC. With the punishment, you set an example for the future. You can get aggressive in cricket; controlled aggression is good, but this was a bit too much,” Afridi told on media.
Harmanpreet Kaur admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Akhtar Ahmed of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees and was no need for a formal hearing.
The On-field umpires Tanvir Ahmed and Muhammad Kamruzzaman, third umpire Moniruzzamman and fourth umpire Ali Arman levelled the charges.
Level 2 breaches carry a penalty of between 50 and 100 per cent of a player’s match fee and three or four demerit points while Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee with one or two demerit points.
