The WK-batter Ishan Kishan is unlikely for a match beginning for the Duleep trophy in 2024 in Anantapur on Thursday.
With the reason for Kishan’s withdrawal unclear, some reports suggest that the left-hander might be carrying an injury. Kishan’s participation in the later stages of the four-day FC tournament remains unknown at the moment.
It will also be subject to his availability for Indian team selection for the two-match test series against Bangladesh. However, there is a possibility he could feature in the later stages of the six-match tournament.
Each team will play three matches and Team D’s second match will be played against Team A starting on September 12 in Anatapur.
Kishan represented Jharkhand in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament 2024 in Chennai, but played only two games as his side could not proceed beyond the league stage. He played two matches against Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad where the side won the first and second games before being knocked out.
In the second match, played at India Cement Ground in Shankar Nagar in Chennai, Kishan scored 1 and 5 runs in the two innings before his team was eliminated.
Ishan Kishan scored a century in the first innings and remained unbeaten by 41 runs in the second. Last season, Kishan was sidelined by the national selectors on disciplinary grounds after he skipped a few Ranji Trophy matches. Due to his actions, he was snubbed out of the BCCI’s central contract for the 2024 season.
The cricket board stated that he will be considered for national selection only after he plays for his state team. Kishan may have played in the Buchi Babu tournament, but the red-ball competition is not recognized as a national competition.
His inclusion in the Duleep Trophy mix may be suggestive that the selectors have begun the loosen the conditions against him and it remains unknown how they will now view his last-minute withdrawal.
Ishan Kishan could join Suryakumar Yadav in missing the multiday red-ball competition. The India T20I captain suffered a hand injury during the Buchi Babu tournament and is currently undergoing treatment at the NCA in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj have already withdrawn from the competition for different reasons. Ajay Ratra, the newly appointed BCCI selector will have to start work with immediate effect.
He has been assigned the Duleep Trophy matches in Anantapur where a couple of selectors will also be there. Two selectors will be in Bengaluru for Team A vs Team B before the five-member committee convenes in Anantapur for the remainder of the tournament.
