Indian young batter Ishan Kishan now become the player to strike the fastest double hundred in men’s ODI cricket surpassing Chris Gayle’s 138-ball record.
Fastest Double Hundred In Men’s ODI Cricket
Ishan Kishan achieved this milestone during the 3rd ODI of Bangladesh vs India at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on December 10, 2022. After losing the first 2 ODIs and missing opening batter Rohit Sharma owing to a hand injury, India makes Dhawan and Ishan Kishan to open the inning.
While Dhawan walks off for 3 runs, Kishan and Kohli made a massive 290 runs partnership. Kishan reached the landmark with a quick single off 126 balls.
Rohit Sharma has three double hundreds in ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gayle, Fakhar Zaman, and Martin Guptill have hit one double-century each.

Kishan’s 150 off 103 balls is the fastest 150 in men’s ODIs for India. The record was previously held by Sehwag, who got there in 112 balls vs West Indies in 2011. This is also the first ODI hundred by an Indian opener since January 2020. Kishan, at 24 years and 145 days, is also the youngest to score a double ton.
His double century also made Ishan the highest run-getter in an innings by a visiting batter in Bangladesh as he pipped Australia’s Shane Watson (185* in 2011) to the feat.
He also surpassed former India skipper Sourav Ganguly to become India’s highest individual run-scorer as an opener in a match away from home. Ganguly had scored 183 against Sri Lanka in Taunton in 1999. This is also now the highest individual score against Bangladesh by any batter in men’s ODI
Kishan was eventually caught for a blistering 210 off 131 balls. The southpaw slammed 24 fours and 10 sixes during his aggressive innings.
