Ireland names Women Squad for White ball Series against Sri Lanka

Ireland has named their 14-member squad for the upcoming ICC women’s championship series against Australia at home.

Alice Tector, the younger sister of Ireland men’s batter Harry Tector has earned her maiden call-up alongside Christina Coulter Reilly has been in the squad for the Two-match T20Is commencing on August 11. Laura Delany will be leading both T20I and ODI squads against Sri Lanka.

While speaking during the squad announcement, Joyce is expecting a tough battle from the Sri Lanka team and wants his players to embrace the difficult task in from of them during the series.

“Every international series for us is really important because we know we want to see progression. It’s always tricky looking at results, especially when playing against teams ranked much higher than us,” Joyce said.

Ireland women lost the chance to compete in the main tournament of the T20 World Cup 2024 after suffering defeat at the hands of the Scotland women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 qualifiers.

“Sri Lanka has really improved – we were obviously hoping to play them in the final in the (ICC Women’s T20 World Cup) qualifiers, but didn’t quite get there. You know, they’ve obviously got one of the world’s best in captain Chamari Athapaththu, but the rest of their players seem to be young and hungry and doing really well. So I think they’re both two very tough series for us.”

Ireland women will be playing two T20Is and Three ODIs before playing five white ball games against England in September.

The first match of the T20I leg will be played on August 11 at Pembroke Cricket Club, Sandymount, Dublin.
