The Board of Control for Cricket in India has informed the franchises the IPL 2025 mega auction will be featuring two sets of marquee players.
According to the information received from the franchises, who have been preparing for the auction, the BCCI has told them that there will be two marquee lists consisting of 8-9 players in each set.
While it is not unusual to have two Elite lists in a mega auction like the previous edition in 2022. However, the 2018 and 2019 auctions, there were two sets.
Players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler are expected to be part of Elite list.
Each marquee player has also given themselves a base price of INR 2 crore, and as per expectations, by the end of the first two sets, the teams will have spent about 30-50 percent of their purse, looking to acquire at least two big names.
The order of the marquee list is yet to be released by the BCCI and its is expected to be released in the next few days.
A total of 1165 registrations from Indian players while 409 overseas players have registered for entering IPL auction pool. The list incorporated 320 capped, 1224 uncapped and 30 Associate Players. Meanwhile, a total of 46 players has been named in IPL retained players list.
If every franchise were to have a maximum of 25 players in their squad, 204 players will be transacted in the acution, of which up to 70 may be overseas players.
The BCCI has also asked the franchises to suggest some names to be included in marquee players list before November 12.
The IPL governing council has confirmed that the mega auction will be held in November 24 and 25 at Jeddah. Despite the event being hosted overseas, IPL fans can still enjoy the IPL 2025 auction live streaming from their home.
As a part of the season, BCCI will release the IPL 2025 schedule, IPL 2025 squad, IPL 2025 live streaming, IPL 2025 ticket booking links, and IPL 2025 team jersey details right before the start of the tournament.
