IPL 2025 Mega Auction Likely To be Held Overseas in November

The much-awaited IPL 2025 Mega Auction is expected to take place in the mid of November. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is exploring the opportunities to hold mega auctions overseas, with Abu Dhabi in the UAE emerging as the front runner, Muscat and Doha are also being considered.

With the exact dates yet to be finalized, BCCI has indicated two potential windows to franchises, either the second week of November or the third week of December.

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction will likely be held and is expected to span two days, BCCI is also considering logistical challenges and ensuring the availability of key stakeholders.

“The dates under consideration are either around November 16-17 or sometime between December 15 and 20. The BCCI operations team is currently evaluating these options,” said a source.

The IPL 2024 auction took place in Dubai, but “nothing has been decided yet,” said the source. “The BCCI is exploring various options, and the franchises will be informed in due course about the final venue.” said an official announcement.

The BCCI had a meeting with franchise owners in July, the sports governing body has promised to share the updated retention policy for the IPL 2025 auction by the second week of August.

But, no official announcement has been issued so far, raising concerns among the franchises. According to sources with the BCCI, a formal update is expected to be sent to the franchises by the end of this week or, at the latest, early next week.

Meanwhile, it is understood that coaches who worked under Rahul Dravid with the Indian team will likely find positions with various IPL franchises.

The former Indian batting coach, Vikram Rathour, might join head coach Rahul Dravid at Rajasthan Royals, replacing Trevor Penney, who could be assigned to the Royal CPL team, Barbados Royals.

India’s former Bowling coach under Rahul Dravid is expected to join a franchise although nothing seems to have been finalized so far.

It is known that former coaches have declined commentary offers, expressing their preference for coaching roles. Additionally, Munaf Patel, former India pacer and 2011 World Cup winner, is expected to take up an IPL coaching assignment this season.
