    IPL 2025 Auction: Internationals Who could be Retained as ‘Uncapped Player’

    The IPL 2025 auction is set to bring new regulations with its updated retention rules which were recently announced by the IPL Governing Council.

    The Retention rule allows Indian players who haven’t played an international game in five years to be classified and kept as ‘uncapped players.’

    According to the BCCI, IPL teams can retain as many as six players on their respective rosters for the 2025 season. The right-to-match option is also available for the mega auction.

    In addition, the Auction purse value has been added INR 20 crore and hence the total auction size will be INR 120 crore.

    The uncapped rule allows Indian players who haven’t played an international game in five years to be classified and kept as ‘uncapped players’. This creates a chance to bring back some stars into the IPL.

    MS Dhoni

    The former CSK captain MS Dhoni is undoubtedly the face of the franchise. He would be useful for mentoring and guiding young players in CSK. He is valuable due to his experience and leadership qualities.

    He has guided CSK to 5 IPL titles and has scored 5243 runs in 264 matches. After retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni can be retained as an uncapped player for the mega auction under the uncapped rule.

    Piyush Chawla

    Piyush Chawla has constantly proved himself as a leg spinner. His ability to take very wickets at crucial times makes him a valuable player in the auction. Piyush played some important matches for Mumbai Indians and has picked 192 wickets in 192 matches.

    Sandeep Sharma

    The fast bowler Sandeep Sharma usually gets early wickets into the match. His presence will bolster the bowling attack in the franchise. He picked 137 wickets at an average of 27.07.

    Amit Mishra

    Amit Mishra is known for his smartness which comes from years of experience as a spinner. LSG’s bowling team will be boosted by the presence of Mishra who has 174 wickets to his name in the IPL.

    Mohit Sharma

    Mohit Sharma has been a consistent fast bowler, especially when the competition gets tough, bowls yorkers under pressure and is good at maintaining speed under stress.

    Mohit has taken 132 wickets in 112 matches with an average of 24.67.

    Vijay Shankar

    Vijay Shankar can be a very useful all-rounder who can help both with batting and bowling. His ability to bat in different spots makes him a good choice during the IPL mega auctions.

    The all-rounder has scored 1115 runs in 72 IPL matches at a strike rate of 129.80.

    Karn Sharma 

    Karn is a left-arm spinner with a lot of experience. He can change the game by using share spinning on spin-friendly pitches. He may give strength to the spin bowling of his team. Karn has played 83 IPL matches, in which he took 76 wickets.

    Mayank Markhande

    Mayank Markande is one of the emerging young players who could be a bright star. Mayank has produced wonderful knocks in earlier IPL seasons that reflect what he’s capable of doing. The 26-year-old has taken 37 wickets in 37 matches in IPL history.
