The Indian star batter Virat Kohli underwent scans in Australia ahead of the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
With the injury extent unknown, it is reported that the right-handed batter went for scans after the practice sessions on Thursday.
Kohli has always been a crowd-puller in Australia and his presence in Australia has significantly boosted viewership and extended media coverage.
However, his current form is a concern. In 19 international matches this year, he managed to score only 488 runs with an average of 20.33. It includes two fifties and a highest score of 76.
His struggles in test cricket have been troubling particularly after his past dominance in the format.
During the years 2016-19, Kohli was at the peak of his career, amassing 4208 runs at an average of 66.79, including 16 centuries and 10 fifties.
He also set a record with seven double centuries, the most by a captain in Tests. But since 2020, his form began to dip dramatically, scoring only 1838 runs in 34 tests at an average of 31.68 with only two centuries and two fifties.
Virat Kohli’s performance has been highlighted during the home test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
In five tests Virat Kohli has scored only 192 runs in the last 10 innings at an average of 21.33 with just one fifty.
On the other hand, KL Rahul suffered a blow on his elbow on Friday during India’s simulation match at WACA. The right handed batter left the field after he was stuck on his elbow.
This is a huge blow for the team as he was considered to replace Rohit Sharma after the skipper is set to miss the first test.
The five-match test series will kickstart on November 22 while the second test will be played on a day-night format under the stadium lights starting on December 06.
The third test will be played in the Gabba which will be held between December 14-18. The fourth test will be played between December 26-30 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The fifth and final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3-7 will give a promising dramatic conclusion for the exciting contest.
