Indian offspinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the remaining of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 due to a fractured finger which she sustained during the game against Pakistan on Friday in Dambulla.

BCCI has named Tanuja Kanwer as her replacement player for the tournament. Shreyanka Patil picked up the injury while attempting to take a catch in their opening clash against Pakistan Women.
During the process, she fractured her fourth finger on her left hand but managed to bowl till the end of Pakistan’s inning. Patil bagged a couple of wickets while spelling just 14 runs in 3.2 overs and helped India to fold their opponents for 108 runs.
“Shreyanka Patil of India has been ruled out of the remainder of the Women’s Asia Cup after she sustained an injury while fielding during the team’s opening game of the tournament, against Pakistan, in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. In place of her, Tanuja Kanwer will join the team”, said the ACC in a statement on Saturday.
This is not the first injury for the offspinner, she sustained a hairline fracture in the same hand during the WPL 2024 and missed a few RCB games before making a comeback.
Upon her return in the final, Shreyanka picked up four wickets in the final and helped RCB to clinch their maiden WPL title. She also secured the Purple Cap and the Emerging Player of the Season award for her dominant performance.
Her replacement in the Asia Cup 2024 – Tanuja Kanwer also have an impressive track record in the WPL 2024. She finished as Gujarat Giants‘ leading wicket-taker with 10 scalps in eight games at 7.13.
Following a victorious campaign against Pakistan Women, India Women will play their next game of the tournament against United Arab Emirates Women on July 21 in Dambulla.
