India suffered a defeat in the finals of the World Cup 2023 at Ahmedabad Stadium where Australia won by six wickets.  Winning the toss Australia chose to bowl where they folded the Men in Blues for 240 runs. Australia chased the target by the end of 43 overs and won the match by 6 wickets.

It was a heartbreaking moment for Indian players as they failed to obtain victory despite trying so hard to win the finals. Players like Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are found in tears on losing the match.

While speaking on the post-match conference, the Indian skipper said he was proud by his team for their spectacular run in the tournament. They draw out their potential to the full extent until their semifinal match.

He also admitted that his side was “not good enough” on the big day of the tournament. He also suggested that it would be easier if they scored 20-30 runs more than their total.

“Honestly, the result hasn’t gone our way,” Rohit said at the post-match conference, “And we know that we were not good enough today. But I’m really proud of the team, how we played from game one. It wasn’t our day, we tried everything we could from our side but it wasn’t supposed to be.

“Honestly, 20-30 [runs] more would’ve been good. We spoke around 25-30 overs when KL and Virat were batting. I thought when they were batting they were stitching a good partnership there and then we just needed to bat as long as possible.”

“We were looking at 270-280 at that point, but then we kept losing wickets. We couldn’t stitch a big partnership there, and that’s exactly what Australia did to win the game. They stitched a big partnership after that three [early] wickets.”

India had a great start as Rohit Sharma scored 47 in the powerplay, but also lost 3 wickets for 81 runs in the 11th over. India had slowed down drastically between the overs 11 and 40 where they had only two fours.

When Rahul and Kohli were helping the side with the score, their dismissal completely shattered the defenses of the side as other wickets fell so quickly.

On the other hand, Australia had a moderate start as they lost 3 wickets for 47 runs in the seventh over. But Travis Head took a stance knocking an incredible 134 runs helping the side for a easy victory. Marnus alongside with Head, avoided the further fall of wickets.

Rohit continued and said, “When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets as early as possible, and we did that,” he said. “But then credit to Head and Marnus, they stitched a big partnership and put us completely out of the game. But again, we tried everything we could but I thought the wicket got slightly better to bat on under the lights.

“We knew under the lights it would be slightly better. I don’t want to give that as an excuse, we didn’t bat well enough to put enough runs on the board. And then up-front we got those three wickets and we thought another wicket there we can open up the game but again credit to those two guys in the middle for stitching that big partnership.”

India will be playing their 5-match T20I series against Australia starting their first T20I on November 23 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
