India will host the Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in the T20 format after 34 years while the tournament will be played in 50-over format in Bangladesh in 2027.
According to the invitation for Expressions of Interest for the sponsorship rights document by the Asian Cricket Council, a total of 13 matches will be a tournament that will feature six teams.
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a sixth team will be picked through a qualifying event. While the dates are yet to be finalized, sources have indicated that it could be held sometime in September, once the monsoon season is over in the country.

As per the International Cricket Council’s FTP 2023-27, India has full packed calendar next year, as it will have a limited over series against England in February, followed by the Champions Trophy in February.
With the IPL to be played between March and May, the team will England from June to August before to Bangladesh for three ODIs and as many T20Is. So, the Asia Cup is expected to be held after the Bangladesh series and before the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October.
However, BCCI sources have revealed that no decision has been taken about the possible venues yet. There will be no men’s Asian tournament in 2026 and the women’s Asia Cup will be in T20 format in the same year.
The Asia Cup 2023 was played in a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting a few matches at home, while India played their matches in Sri Lanka. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India clinched the title, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the finals at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Bangladesh will host the 2027 Asia Cup which will return to the fifty-over format. Unlike the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, only six teams will be part of the 2025 and 2027 Asia Cup.

ACC’s decision to give Asia Cup 2025 hosting rights to India comes amid a heated debate between PCB and BCCI in the ICC General meeting over Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy in 2025. With BCCI wanting India’s games to be played outside of Pakistan, PCB is stubborn about hosting the continental Cup in Pakistan alone.
