Winning the toss, India chose to bat first. Right after the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said “We are going to have a bat. That’s the challenge you come across as a sportsman, different challenges thrown at you as a player and as a team. We ensured everyone got into the pool after the game last night”.
“They are fresh as we had five days off before these two games. The last game was good for us, we batted well and then came out to defend the total with some good bowling. But again this is a new day and a fresh game. The pitch looks different, looks a lot drier and there’s no grass and hence we bring in Axar for Shardul. It might assist the spinners but we also have three quality pacers”, Rohit added.
Right after the Pakistan vs India Asia Cup 2023 group match ended with no result, the board decided to add a reserve day for their Group Four clash on September 10. With rain expected on the game day, ACC allotted the very next day(September 11) as the reserve day for the game.
As expected the Rain intervened the game while India batted 24.1 overs and scored 147 runs for 2 wickets loss. On the reserve day, the game resumed from 24.1 over where Virat and KL Rahul continued to bat.
Virat and KL Rahul both registered a century each and moved India’s score to 356 runs at the end of 50 overs.
Pakistan on the other hand made a terrible start where their top-order batters were sent out to the pavilion before crossing a total of 100 runs. Pakistan lost all their 10 wickets for 128 runs and lost the match by 228 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav bagged his second five-wicket haul by dismissing Fakhar Zaman, Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Faheem Ashraf. Earlier, Rohit Sharma praised the groundsmen on behalf of the whole team for the extraordinary efforts they made during the game.
Meanwhile, Rahul reflected on his comeback innings, stating that his initial nervousness disappeared after playing the first 10-15 balls.
“Obviously, this is my first international match after a long time. I played a couple of practice games, but we all know the intensity is not the same. So when I walked in, I had that initial nervousness. It took me 10-15 balls to just calm myself down and get my feet moving, get my mind thinking of the right things. Then, when I hit one or two boundaries, all those things, the fogginess in your clarity, went away, and it became like before. I was looking at the ball, looking at the situation, and you see what you have to do. But just when I got my rhythm, it started raining,” Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 111, told Star Sports.
Later, BCCI confirmed Iyer’s unavailability for the game. “Shreyas Iyer is feeling better but is yet to fully recover from back spasm. He has been advised rest by the BCCI Medical Team and has not travelled with the team to the stadium today for India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka,” the BCCI said in a statement.
