India Falls for 156 All Out at Pune; Kiwis take 103 Run Lead

The Failure of India’s middle order caused a 156-run all-out during the first innings of the second test of the New Zealand series on day 02 at Pune.

Trailing the series 1-0, India made changes in the playing 11 aiming for a victory in the second and third tests against Blackcaps.

But Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips’ spell tore the defences of the hosts restricting them to a low total. Resuming the match on day 02, India scored 107/7 before lunch. A number of the batters fall for New Zealand’s spin attack in the first session.

Responding to a target of 259, India started their innings and scored 16 runs for a wicket by the end of day 01.

Only Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja were the scorers in the first innings picking scores of 30, 30 and 28 respectively. India’s senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were sent back to the pavilion for a duck and one run respectively.

With Pant and Washington Sundar’s 18 runs each, India scored 156 runs in their first innings. Santner picked a seven-wicket haul with an impressive economy of 2.70. He conceded only 53 runs in the 19.3 overs he bowled.

Glenn Phillips picked two wickets while Southee picked a wicket at MCA stadium. With a lead of 103 runs, New Zealand started their second innings with an upper hand.

The result of the second match might have some impact on India’s position in the WTC points table.

India suffered a defeat in the first test match as they failed to adapt to pitch conditions in the first innings where they scored one of the lowest total of 46. Despite putting up a hard fight in the second innings with a score of 402 runs, New Zealand secured a victory under Tom Latham.
