During the first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, India’s top-order woes continue as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli have been dismissed by the pacer due to Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
India recently suffered a 0-3 defeat at home and is at the stake of securing a high-margin win in the series to make it to the finals of the WTC cycle in London next year.
At Perth, India won the toss and opted to bat first with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opening the innings. But the power hitter Jaiswal has been sent out on 8 8-ball duck by Mitchell Starc.

Josh Hazlewood aslo joined Starc and opened his account by dismissing Devdutt Padikkal for a 23-ball duck. In a short interval he again picked the wicket of Virat Kohli for 5 runs which made India struggle to lose three wickets for 32 runs.
Despite being a star in Australian soil, Virat Kohli has been struggling with his recent form in tests.
In the ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle, Virat Kohli has amassed 561 runs in nine tests at an average of 37.40 in 16 innings. In the year 2024, Virat Kohli scored just 250 runsin 12 test innings across six matches he played with an average of 22.72.
After KL Rahul’s dismissal for 26 runs, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are trying to stitch a partnership to revive India from damage inflicted by Australian bowlers.
