ICC Forms Three Member Committee to Evaluate Conduct of T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council formed a three-member committee to review the delivery of the T20 World Cup which was cohosted by the USA and West Indies last month.

    ICC Board Meeting Outcomes

The ICC annual conference concluded in Colombo on July 22 with the international Board and Annual General meeting attended by all 108 members of the board. The main theme of the meeting is to “capitalize on the Olympic opportunity” ahead of the Cricket inclusion in LA2028.

Other than the discussion about cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics, a three-member committee was set up to conduct a detailed review of the conduct of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Committee will be overseen by three directors, Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khawaja who will be reporting back to the ICC later. It is understood that the cricket governing body incurred losses of over USD 20 million for conducting matches in New York, Florida, and Dallas.

“The ICC Board confirmed that there will be a review into the delivery of the ICC T20 World Cup. This will be overseen by three directors, Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja who will report back to the Board later in the year,” an ICC release stated.

USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been issued notice and have 10 months to rectify their current non-compliance with the membership criteria. Both the cricket boards are considered as not fit for governance and Administrative structure and systems in their respective countries.

The ICC America office will be coordinating with Cricket Chile to support them in rectifying their noncompliance. The Board agreed that the committee of the Board and Management will oversee and monitor the operations of USA Cricket and their compliance roadmap and the International Cricket Board will decide the right to suspend or expel the member if the objection continues.

Moreover, the chief executives’ committee confirmed the allocation of the eight regional qualifying spots for the T20 World Cup 2026. This will foresee two teams qualifying from Africa and Europe, One from America, and three from Asia and the EAP region combined.

Along with it, ICC has decided to bring equity in both men’s and women’s games, which will foresee the expansion of the Women’s T20 World Cup from 12 to 16 teams in 2030.
