ICC Eyes on Security Situation in Bangladesh’s Women’s T20 World Cup Venue

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that they have been eyeing the security situation in Bangladesh, which is set to host the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 later this October.

The Bangladesh police imposed a curfew and military forces patrolled Dhaka on Saturday after a riot escalated in the capital and protests by students, demanding to reform the quota system for government jobs.

“We have independent security monitoring across the world. So, yes, we are keeping a watch on it (the situation in Bangladesh),” said an ICC member told PTI.

Australia is the most successful team in the women’s T20 World Cup with six wins in the tournament claiming the titles in the years 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023.

With England and West Indies claiming the title once, India is eyeing the maiden title under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy.

India is currently playing in the women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Sri Lanka and pacer Renuka Singh had said the team was using the tournament as a preparation for the ICC tournament. India opened their campaign by defeating Pakistan

“The Asia Cup is important for us because after this we don’t have many matches (ahead of the T20 WC) and we will have to rely on practice. So, this is a learning experience for us, and the conditions (in Bangladesh) could be similar. So, this is a good chance for us to get ready for the World Cup,” concluded Renuka Singh.
