ICC Confirms Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025, Indian Matches to be Played in Neutral Venue

The ICC Champions Trophy has been confirmed to be played in the Hybrid Model between February 19 to March 09 with eight nations set to participate in the tournament.

Originally the event was scheduled to be hosted in Pakistan, but after BCCI refused to the send Indian Cricket Team to Pakistan due to security reasons, and Pakistan also being reluctant to host the tournament within the country itself, the sports body intervened in the issues and proposed a hybrid model.

According to reports, the Indian team’s matches will be played at a neutral venue. It is also applicable to Pakistan when India hosts an ICC event, the men in Green’s matches will be held in neutral venue.

All India’s match involving the Indian cricket team including group stages, semi finals and the final (if they qualify) will be played in Dubai. If India fails to progress the group stages, Pakistan has secured the right to host the semi finals and finals in Lahore.

The agreement will be applied to the Champions Trophy in 2025 and T20 World Cup 2026.

The Sports Governing body has also said it does not object to a triangular T20I tournament involving India, Pakistan, and another Asian Full Member nation being arranged as well, subject to such tournaments being played at a neutral venue.

The idea of tri-nation series arose as compensation for Pakistan losing out on hosting India‘s matches in next year’s Champions Trophy. With the Champions Trophy stance are cleared, the schedule is expected to be released soon.
