ICC Chairman Jay Shah Meets Olympics Organising Committee CEO in Brisbane

The Newly appointed ICC Chairman Jay Shah has met the CEO of Brisbane 2032 Olympics, Cindy Hook as the sport governing body gears up for its return to the Olympics.

Cricket is already to make a return to the Olympics in the 2028 Los Angeles games after a gap of 128 years. The sport was part of the Olympics in 1900 when teams representing Great Britain and France faced each other.

“Very exciting time ahead for Cricket’s involvement in the Olympics movement – a meeting with the Brisbane 2032 organizing committee in Brisbane, Australia today,” Shah wrote in a caption to the video post he shared on X.

Jay Shah will be looking to expand the popularity of the sport across the globe as he had said in his recent statements.

“This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide.”

“Cricket holds immense potential globally, and I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to seize these opportunities and take the sport to new heights,” said Shah in a statement.

Earlier in August 2021, the International Cricket Council formed a special working group to push cricket for its inclusion in the 2028 and 2032 summer olympics.

The committee had representatives from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), USA Cricket and Zimbabwe Cricket.

Jay Shah has been the youngest to become ICC chairman. He was the 36th person and 5th Indian to head the global sports body after Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N.Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar.

Meanwhile it was expected that the final schedule of the Champions trophy 2025 would be out once Shah takes charge of ICC. However, there’s still uncertainity hovering over the cricketing event with just over two months remaining in the competition.
