    ICC Announces Nominees for Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy For Men’s Cricketer of Year

    England’s duo Harry Brook and Joe Root, Australia’s Travis Head and India’s Jasprit Bumrah have been named in the list of Nominees for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.

    Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2024.

    Harry Brook emerged as one of England’s most reliable performers in the longest format of the year. He piled up back-to-back centuries against New Zealand helping England to win their first test series in the country since 2008.

    His best innings came in the sub-continent, guiding England to a mammoth win against Pakistan. He lighted up England’s Test, ODI and T20I encounters with explosive hitting and boasting an average of over 50 in all three formats.

    His Consistent performance helped the 22-year old dethrone teammate Joe Root the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings.

    Another England cricketer, Joe Root earns a nomination a scintillating year in the longer format, having struck more runs (1556) and more centuries than any other batter.

    He attempted and succeeded climbing new height in 2024. The England veteran finished with over 1000 test runs in calendar year for the fifth time in his career.

    Root has also maintained a long reign as the number one in ICC Men’s test batting rankings scoring an impressive six test hundreds and another five fifty plus score to his name.

    On other hand, Australian hitter Travis Head continues to maintain stellar performance this year. South paw has finished among the leading run-getters at ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Head was vital to Australia’s push for defending their ICC World Test champions title.

    The left-handed batter closed the year leading the run-scoring charts in the five-test series against India at home.

    He made 140 runs in 141 deliveries, Head took the attack to the Indian bowlers in the pink-ball test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

    The Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah went on an inspiring run across formats for India guiding to memorable triumphs including their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title.

    Bumrah picked 15 wickets from eight outings, including a couple in the final against South Africa as India went unbeaten at 2024 T20 World Cup.

    He has played a crucial role in ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy picking 30 wickets in four tests.
