Ibrahim Zadran – The Afghan cricketer becomes a piece of sensation news right after the right-handed opening batter scored 150+ runs against Sri Lanka in their last ODI match.
Ibrahim Zadran’s 162 in the 3rd ODI Against Sri Lanka
The Afghanistan cricket team has been scheduled to tour Sri Lanka to play 3 match ODI series as a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2023.
Afghanistan cricket team under Hashmatullah Shahidi have won their opening match by beating Sri Lanka by massive 60 runs and took a lead in the three-match ODI series. While both teams were keen to register their victory in the second ODI, the rain interrupted and stops the match which resulted – No Result.
The third ODI match which was scheduled to play on November 30 remains the do-or-die match for the Sri Lanka cricket team as they were in need to win the match in order to tie the series.
Winning the toss Afghanistan choose to bat first where the opening batter Gurbaz failed to score the expected runs and walks to Pavillion after scoring just 5 runs. Ibrahim Zadran, on the other hand, scored massive 162 runs and becomes Afghanistan’s highest ODI run scorer.
Najibullah’s 77 added a boost to the Afghan scoreboard and led the team to score 313 runs for 8 wickets loss at the end of the 50 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran who received the player of the series award said: “I’m very happy with my performance. The ball was keeping low and stopping, so I took my time in the beginning. We lost three wickets in the middle, but then me and Najib played well.
I was telling him we’ll try for 250 but after he got 50 and I got my hundred, our target was 300. This is just the start of my cricket, I will try to do more great things for my country, and for the people of Afghanistan. I would like to dedicate this award to my parents for all the hard work they have put in”.
On the other hand, Sri Lankan batters with a descent run contribution reached the target with 2 balls remaining. Charith Asalanka played a crucial role in the victory, he scored a unbeaten 83 runs and led Sri Lanka to beat the touring nation.
Rashid Khan bagged 4 wickets in the third ODI match at an economy rate of 3.70. Sri Lanka will play their next international match against New Zealand in March 2023. In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket will host the third edition of the Lanka Premier League in December 2022.
