Right after India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma and Co received multiple allegations from former cricketers and cricket experts. In particular, Indian captain Rohit Sharma received criticism for his form and captaincy.
In the BGT 2024-25, Rohit only scored 31 runs at an average of just 6.20 in the five innings. Ahead of the 5th test, many reports circulated regarding Rohit Sharma’s unavailability for the Sydney test.
While the report received mixed reactions from everyone, fans and cricket experts were left in awe right after Jasprit Bumrah walked down to the toss at Sydney. Even stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah praises Rohit Sharma’s leadership for opting out in the Sydney game.
During the middle of the game, Rohit Sharma revealed reason behind skipping Sydney test and rejects the retirement rumours.
Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh opens on Rohit Sharma’s decision to skip the do-or-die game and said “I have not seen in the past that a captain is out of form”.
Talking about the India skipper opting out of the fifth and final Test of the series in Sydney, Yuvraj said, “It’s a big thing. I have not seen in the past that a captain is out of form and he opted out of the playing XI. It is Rohit Sharma’s greatness that he kept the team ahead of himself. He’s a great captain, whether he wins or loses, he will always be a great captain. In his captaincy, we played the World Cup (ODI) final, we won the T20 World Cup, we achieved a lot.”
Yuvraj Singh also highlighted that the defeat against New Zealand at home hurt more than the BGT 2024-25 defeat.
“More than the defeat in Australia, the loss to New Zealand should hurt us more because we lost 0-3 at home. That is not acceptable. It’s fine we lost in Australia after winning twice. Australia has been a dominant side for so many years,” said the former cricketer.
