“I Don’t Need PR” MS Dhoni’s Take on Low Social Media Presence

Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni is one of the stars who are lowly active on social media. The wk-batter retired from an international cricket career in 2020, but remains active as a player in the Indian Premier League, playing for Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni who was known for his calm and straightforward approach has expressed his lack of interest in the platform.

When asked about maintaining such a low social media profile, Dhoni provided an answer which went viral. He revealed that his managers keep pushing him to promote himself but he insisted no need for PR if his game is good.

Reflecting on his journey since making his debut in 2004, Dhoni has explained how his manageer often suggesting leveraging social media for public relations.

“I have never been a big fan of social media. Throughout, I have had different managers and all of them keep pushing. I started playing in 2004; Twitter got popular later on, after which Instagram came in.”

“All the managers are like, ‘You should do some PR, build this and build that.’ I had the same answer that if I play good cricket, I don’t need PR,” said Dhoni.

In the same show, Dhoni also shared the one thing he would never do with Suresh Raina, his longtime friend and teammate from the both the Indian team and Chennai Super Kings.

Dhoni mentioned that he would never choose Raina as his bike riding partner because Raina can’t stay still and starts moving, particularly when he spots a truck on the road.

“In the sense, you know, to put it very simply, in a motorcycle, unlike a car, you know, whether it’s your fault or not, if there’s an accident or if you fall, you will get hurt and most of the atheletes, they are very worried about their joints, especially knees and elbows,” Dhoni said.

“Most of the players, they stay away from it. But people who have sat with me on a bike and we have been on ride, I can pick one who i would not, you know, takes as a companion and that would be Suresh Raina because, you know, he starts moving. So, if he sees a truck, you know, getting close, he starts to move along,” he added.

Dhoni will be returning to action in IPL 2025. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has retained him as an uncapped player for INR 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
