India Women lost their last group stage match of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to Australia by 9 runs and their qualifications rest on Pakistan’s win against New Zealand women.
Chasing the target of 152, India finished at 142/9 at Sharjah. Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten with 54 runs and was left in the non-striker end for most of the final over.
Despite the loss, Indian women still can qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Australia secured their semi-final spot by winning all of their group-stage matches. India is in second position with two wins and two losses and will be hoping for Pakistan to beat New Zealand on October 14. India women’s semi-final qualification chances will depend on the outcome of the PAKW vs NZW match.
Meanwhile, New Zealand and Pakistan stand in the third and fourth places with two and one wins respectively.

While speaking about their qualification hopes for the semi-finals in the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur admitted “It’s something which is not in our control.”
“If we get the opportunity to play another game, that will be great. But otherwise, whoever deserves to be there, that team will be there.”
For India’s NRR to remain above Pakistan the women in Green must not have a big win. If they win by a higher run difference or chase the total in less overs Pakistan can go through India’s run rate and qualify for the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in group B both Bangladesh Women and Scotland women are knocked out of the tournament. West Indies women, South African women and England women are in the contention of qualifying for the semi-finals.
The final match of the group A stages between Pakistan women and New Zealand women will be played on October 14 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
