Hobart Hurricanes Call 13 Year Old Mia Barwick to T20 Spring Challenge Squad

The 13-year-old Tasmanian Mia Barwick has been called into the Hobart Hurricanes squad after Heather Graham was called into the Australia squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The pacer impressed in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League last year and performed well at the U16 and U19 Female National Championships.

With Hobart Hurricanes sitting third on the T20 Spring Challenge table and having two more games this week, they will aim to play in the finals on Saturday as they look to maintain their position within the top four.

“At only 13 years of age, the Hobart Hurricanes are proud to see a Cricket Tasmania pathways athlete given exposure to the professional game early on in Barwick’s career,” Hurricanes said.

The Hurricanes have two matches remaining but are in line to compete in the finals over the weekend.

The spring challenge was initiated after the WBBL season was reduced to bring it in line with BBL. The availability of Barwick will remain with the Hurricanes when the WBBL begins unclear as Australian players will be back for the league.

With the WBBL 2024 season set to begin on October 27, Hobart Hurricanes will be playing their first match against Sydney Thunder on October 28 at Bellerive Oval.
