    Suryakumar Yadav became one of the most discussed players right after BCCI named him as the new T20I captain. Despite making his international debut at the age of 30, Suryakumar Yadav rose to the highest level within three years and became the Indian T20I captain at the age of 33.

    Suryakumar who is well known for his unique, aggressive batting style is also a member of the Indian cricket team that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.

    Regardless of making a late appearance for Team India, his batting performance made him stick in the playing 11 and forced the selection committee to look beyond him. Though Suryakumar Yadav made his international debut at the age of 30, he has maintained a prolific record in his domestic career.

    Suryakumar Yadav’s cricket history and his debut age in various formats are quite interesting to have a look at. Surya was enrolled in a cricket camp at BARC colony in Mumbai at the age of 10.

    At the age of 19, he made his List A debut in February 2010 for Mumbai against Gujarat and made his T20 debut in March 2010 in a match against Hyderabad. The 1990-born made his first-class debut at the age of 20, against Delhi in December 2010.

    Though Surya made his domestic debut in 2010, it took more than a decade for him to feature in the national jersey. His stint with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League brought his talent to the limelight.

    At the age of 21, Suryakumar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2012 in a match against Pune Warriors at Wankhede Stadium.

    During the IPL 2014 auction, he was brought by KKR and remained a part of the team that won the title in the 2014 season. He scored 608 runs in 54 matches he played for KKR across four seasons.

    In the 2018 IPL auction, Mumbai Indians roped Suryakmar Yadav for INR 3.2 crores and remained a part of the team that won the 2019 and 2020 seasons. His extraordinary cricket history and ability to hit hard in the lower order attracted the BCCI selectors.

    At the age of 30, Suryakumar Yadav was named in the India T20I squad for the home series against England in 2021 and made his international debut for India on 14 March 2021 in the second match of the series at Ahmedabad. But the right-handed batter hasn’t batted in the game.

    Yadav played his first international ball on 18 March 2024 in the fourth game of the series and struck a six off the very first delivery he faced in his international career.

    Yadav made his ODI debut on 18 July 2021 in the first match of the India tour of Sri Lanka 2021 played at Colombo. Since then he remained a part of the Indian limited over team and played various crucial and match-winning knocks.

    After winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma announced his T20I retirement. While everyone expected Hardik Pandya to fill the vacant position BCCI named Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain.

    This will not be his first series as the captain, SKY already captained India in the T20I series against Australia and South Africa. Under SKY, India won the Aussies series by 4-1 and drew the series against the Proteas.

    Apart from captaining the Indian cricket team, he also captained Mumbai at the domestic level. Suryakumar captained the Mumbai team during the 2014–15 and 2019-20 Ranji Trophy seasons. He also captained Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21.
