Heinrich Klaasen’s Knock Guides South Africa for 4-Run Victory against Bangladesh

Heinrich Klaasen’s 46-run knock in South Africa’s innings helped the side secure a thrilling victory against Bangladesh at New York Stadium. South Africa registered their third victory and became the first team to qualify for the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Heinrich Klaasen was named Player of the match. While speaking in the post-match conference, “That was not nice on the heart but good that we got over the line. The wicket is not too great for strokeplay. We got some good information from the last game and applied it today, we got a decent score. Luckily we’ve got experience in the changing room, we almost had a One-Day mindset. Three pressure games now but I think we’re through so that’s good.”

Coming to the match, South Africa won the toss and chose to bat minding the pitch conditions at New York. With Tanzim Hasan picking the wicket of Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock for a golden duck on an lbw and 18 runs respectively, Aiden Markram’s dismissal for four runs had put South Africa under pressure. With the dismissal of Tristan Stubbs on a duck they lost four wickets for 23 runs in the fifth over.

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller’s partnership helped the side to recover from early dismissals. South Africa crossed the 50-run mark in the 10 over with back-to-back sixes from Heinrich Klaasen.

The partnership stand of 79 runs for the fifth wicket helped the side revive it in the match. Heinrich Klaasen scored 46 runs on 44 deliveries while David Miller scored 29 runs on 38 deliveries.

With David Miller’s dismissal by Rishad Hossain, South Africa scored 106 runs in the 19th over. By the end of 20 overs, South Africa scored 113 runs losing 6 wickets at Nassau County.

With a target of 114 runs, Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto opened the innings where the former was sent back to the dugout for 9 runs by Kagiso Rabada. Litton Das scored 9 runs while Shakib Al Hasan scored 3 runs before being dismissed by Keshav Maharaj and Nortje respectively.

With the dismissal of Najum Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh lost four wickets for 50 runs in the 10th over. Towhid Hridoy and Mahmudullah scored 37 and 20 runs and helped the side to give a fighting chance at New York stadium.

With the dismissal of Jaker Ali for 8 runs, Bangladesh lost 7 wickets for 109 runs and lost the match by a four-wicket difference.
