“Have Torn Through Bradman” Adam Gilchrist Heaps Praise on Jasprit Bumrah

Former Australia Wk-batter Adam Gilchrist has lavished praise on India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah by saying that the Indian pacer could even trouble cricket legend Sir Don Bradman.

Bumrah has been in peak form in 2024, playing a key role in India’s T20 World Cup victory and continuing his deadly bowling approach in test cricket. He was named as the Player of the Series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 32 wickets.

While speaking on a podcast, Adam Gilchrist said that an Indian pacer could even trouble Bradman.

“I can’t put a number on him that truly reflects his standing in world sport. He would have torn through Bradman at his peak in just a few balls. Bradman’s average of 99 would have dropped significantly if he faced Bumrah. There’s no accolade high enough for him.”

Earlier, during the fourth test, Gilchrist has praised Bumrah stating that he was from different planet.

“It is just a different ball game, a different planet, that Bumrah is playing on compared to everyone else,” said Gilchrist.

However, India suffered a 1-3 defeat in the five match test series against Australia despite Bumrah’s heroics. He dominated the entire field with his aggressive approach and conistent spells for the visitors.

He completed the series at an average of 13.06 and a strike rate of 28.37. In the year 2024, he ended as the leading wicket-taker in test cricket as well with 71 scalps at an impressive average of 14.83.

He did not bowl in the second innings of the final test after taking three four wicket and two five wickt hauls.

Moreover, the Indian pacer has been awarded with ICC Men’s Player of the Month’ award for December 2024.

However, Bumrah has been rested for the upcoming England’s tour of India and his availability for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 remains uncertain due to his injury. On the other hand, Shami has been named in the India’s squad against England taking over entire responsibilities on his shoulder.

The first match of the England’s T20I series will begin on January 22 at Eden Gardens.
