Hasaranga, Asalanka Three-fors forced to a Tie in SL vs IND 1st ODI

Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka picked three-wicket hauls helping the side to seal a dramatic result by dismissing six-hitting Dube. Despite Shivam Dube helping India in the death overs of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, India failed to secure victory in the match.

How did Sri Lanka pull out Tie in the first ODI?

Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh were dismissed in successive balls, leaving the crowd grooving to his tunes. India needed only five runs with just two wickets in hand when Dube was switching to spin-hitting mode.

He picked a six from Wanindu Hasaranga’s delivery. Asalanka had the option to bring on Asitha Fernando or debutant Mohamed Shiraz.

After playing out the first two balls of the 48th over, Dube smashed the third ball through the covers and tied the scores. Asalanka picked the wicket of Dube on a lbw on the next ball for 25 runs.

Dube was not given out, but Asalanka went for review which turned out to be successful. He picked Arshdeep’s wicket for a duck on the successive ball on lbw. Asalanka had darted in another slide from around the wicket. Arshdeep went for a sweep but missed which was trapped in front.

Despite Sri Lanka having a major blowback as five of their fast bowlers were unavailable, they pulled out a significant result with their spin attack from Hasaranga, Asalanka, Akila Dananjaya, and Dunith Wellalage also played their roles with the ball in the win.

SL vs IND 1st ODI highlights

Wellalage was impressive breaking through the partnership built by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill who scored 75 runs. Danajaya accounted for Sundar who was promoted to no.4.

Hasaranga picked three wickets including the wicket of Virat Kohli for 24 runs on 34 balls. KL Rahul forged with Axar Patel for 57-run partnership to balance the innings. He tried a slog sweep where Hasaranga picked the midwicket for 31 runs.

Rohit Sharma provided a fresh start for the side after his T20I retirement announcement by the end of the T20 World Cup campaign. He smashed 58 runs on 47 deliveries before Wellalage picked his wicket.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka had struggled in powerplay when compared to India’s innings. With Pathum Nissanka scoring a half-century, Sri Lanka was able to pull off the balance in the innings.

In the middle order, Wellalage picked up the phase smashing his maiden ODI half-century to cross the 200-run mark in Premadasa Stadium.

Sri Lanka bowlers have proved something to India that they needed a strong response in the upcoming matches if they need to seal victory in the ODI series. The second ODI match will be played on August 04 at Premadasa Stadium.
