Bangladesh bowler Hasan Mahmud secured his second five-wicket haul in test format during the first test against India at Chepauk. With the fifer at Chepauk, Hasan Mahmud becomes the first Bangladesh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in India.
As per the IND vs BAN 2024 schedule, the first test was scheduled to be played between September 19 and 23 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Hasan Mahmud made a dominant performance in the Chepauk test by dismissing Indian star batters for single-digit scores. Mahmud dismantled the Indian top order and gave a struggling start for the hosts on the first day of the match.
Batting first team India was expected to showcase an impressive performance but the visitors scattered their dream of a decent start by bagging three key wickets within the first hour of the game.
Hasan Mahmud bagged his first wicket by dismissing Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for 6 runs. Soon Shubman Gill fell for Mahmud’s trap and returned pavilion without scoring any runs.
Indian star batter Virat Kohli who was expected to display an extraordinary performance also became a victim of Hasan Mahmud’s pace attack by losing his wicket after scoring just six runs.
Though Bangladesh made a dominant performance in the first half, the momentum started to shift towards the Indian side when Pant and Jaiswal made a 62-run stand for the next wicket.
Later the middle order batters Ashwin and Jadeja made a crucial stand and turned the game in favour of the Indian cricket team.
On the first day of the clash, Hasan Mahmud dismissed Rohit Sharma(6), Shubman Gill(0), Virat Kohli(6) and Rishabh Pant(39) and played a key role in Bangladesh’s dominance in the first half of the day.
On the second day of the game, Mahmud dismissed Bumrah for 7 runs and brought an end to India’s first inning with a score of 376. Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah‘s dismissal turned out to be Mahmud’s fifth wicket which also marks his second test fifer.
