“Has the potential to serve Indian cricket”, Ganguly Praises Jaiswal

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly praises Jaiswal over his debut Test performance and suggests BCCI to include him in India’s ODI squad for the West Indies tour 2023.

Ganguly Praises Jaiswal Over his Test Debut Performance

Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal becomes a piece of sensation following his impressive century in his Test debut against West Indies.

During the 1st Test of India tour of West Indies 2023, Indian openers, Jaiswal and Rohit made a 229 runs partnership and broke a 2-decade record and laid a strong foundation for the Indian cricket team.

With an aggressive bowling attack, India won the 1st test by an innings and 141 runs. Jaiswal went on to bag the Player of the Match award for his stunning 171 runs.

Following his performance, many current and former cricketers praised Jaiswal while Ganguly doesn’t fail to make his statement over the Mumbai lad.

“I would like to see Jaiswal play in the upcoming ODI World Cup. I have watched him closely during the IPL. While red-ball cricket demands a different set of skills, Jaiswal has shown that he possesses the qualities to excel in all formats. I believe he has the potential to serve Indian cricket for a long time,” Ganguly stated in an interview with TOI.

Sourav emphasised the significance of having a left-right-handed players combination at the top order in limited-overs cricket. This tactical advantage poses challenges for rival bowlers as they need to continuously adapt their line and length accordingly.

“Having a left-hander like Jaiswal at the top, complementing a right-hander, can create trouble for the opposition’s bowlers. The variety in the batting order can give India a competitive edge during crucial phases of the game,” Ganguly added.

The second and final test of the series is scheduled to play on July 20 while the West Indies vs India ODI series will be played on July 27 with the 2nd and 3rd ODI matches scheduled to play on July 29 and August 1.

The first two ODIs will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown while the final ODI will be played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba.

Ganguly wants Jaiswal in World Cup 2023 Squad

The former BCCI President wants Jaiswal to be included in the World Cup 2023 squad. But Jaiswal’s inclusion in the World Cup 2023 remains doubtful as the left-hander’s name has been included in India’s squad for Asian Games 2023.

“Considering the significance of the ICC World Cup, it would be better for the selectors to withdraw Jaiswal from the Asian Games squad and give him the opportunity to contribute to India’s World Cup campaign”, Ganguly said.

Asian Games 2023 will kick off on 19 September and conclude on 8 October 2023, while the ODI World Cup will begin on October 5 with the final game on November 19.
