Out of 333 players, 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas players of which 2 players are from associate nations. The participating 10 teams have a total of 77 slots to fill of which 30 can be overseas players.

Indian allrounder Harshal Patel registered his name in the IPL 2024 Auction players list at a base price of INR 2 crore.

Harshal Patel was brought by Punjab Kings for INR 11.75 crores in IPL 2024 auction. 

Harshal Patel made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012 in a match against Delhi Capitals at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. In the IPL 2018 auction, Patel was bought by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).

Ahead of the IPL 2021, Patel was traded by the Delhi Capitals to the Royal Challengers Bangalore. On 9 April 2021, in the first match of IPL 2021 while playing for the RCB, Patel took 5 wicket-haul (5-27) against the Mumbai Indians. Harshal Patel is the first bowler to claim a 5-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

On 25 April 2021, in the same IPL season, Patel bowled the joint most expensive over in the history of IPL. While playing against CSK, Patel gave away 37 runs in the 20th over while bowling to Ravindra Jadeja (6, 6, N6, 6, 2, 6, 4).

In the 2022 IPL auction, Patel was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹10.75 crores but left the bio-bubble following the death of his sister. Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, RCB released Harshal Patel.

Harshal Patel has so far played 92 IPL matches and bagged 111 wickets at an economy of 8.59 which includes a 5 wickets haul.

IPL 2024 Auction Rules

As BCCI decides to host a mini-auction for the 2024 season, franchises have the advantage of retaining the majority of their players compared to the mega auction.

  • No franchise will be allowed to buy a player beyond their purse balance.
  • Each team has to spend at least 75% of their total amount.
  • The option of the Right to Match (RTM) card will not be available to franchises.
  • The number of players in each team should not exceed 25 while each squad should have a minimum of 18 players.
  • According to the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.
