Harmanpreet Kaur to Lead India women Squad for New Zealand ODIs

BCCI has announced the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women’s squad for the New Zealand ODI series with notable exclusions like Richa Ghosh, Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana.

Richa Ghosh has been ruled out due to 12th grade board exams while Pooja Vastrakar has been rested.

“Richa Ghosh was unavailable for selection due to her 12th standard board exams. Asha Sobhana is currently nursing an injury and was unavailable for selection. Pooja Vastrakar has been rested for the series,” the BCCI statement said.

The absence of these players has made the Women’s Selection Committee bring four new players to the 16-member squad. Seam bowling allrounders Sayali Satghare and Saima Thakor, leg spinner Prisy Mishra and Batter Tejal Hasanbis have earned a maiden call-up.

India women have been eliminated from the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 because they failed to qualify for the playoffs. All the players part of the women’s T20 World Cup except Sajeevan Sanjana have been retained.

Sanjana played the two matches for India women against Sri Lanka and Pakistan but was dropped for the fourth and last group stage game of India against Australia women.

All three matches of the series will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The first match will be played on October 24 while the second and third ODIs will be played on October 27 ad 29 respectively.
