Harmanpreet Kaur gave an epic reply that silenced a reporter during the press conference ahead of India’s opener match in the Women’s Asia Cup against Pakistan in Dambulla.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s view on India’s Asia Cup Opener
Harmanpreet Kaur will be looking to lead India for the seventh title in the Asia Cup. In the pre-match tournament, Harmanpreet said that she was looking forward to face Pakistan on July 19.
“We always enjoy playing against Pakistan but each and every team is important. Whenever we go and play, we always want to play good cricket, and we will follow the same method,” said Harmanpreet Kaur.
The Indian skipper said that the Asia Cup will help the side prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held later this year in Bangladesh.
“This tournament is very important for all of us because we give equal respect to this tournament and want to improve at the Asian as well as at the world level. So our focus will remain the same as we prepare for the T20 World Cup or any other World Cup. Each and every game is important for us and we will try to give our best,” Harmanpreet said.
“The challenge will be to keep doing the right things which we have done in the past Asia Cups, keep playing the same type of cricket, and keep dominating other teams and enjoy our cricket,” she added.
During the conference, Harmanpreet Kaur was asked a question to which she gave an epic reply. The reporter asked, “Lesser journalists appeared at the press conferences, what is your opinion?” when Indian women last toured Bangladesh in April-May.
“Well, that’s none of my business, you guys have to come and cover us,” Harmanpreet Kaur gave an epic reply silencing the reporter.
Harmanpreet Kaur was involved in a controversy during the third ODI match against Bangladesh in 2023 at Dhaka. During the match, she had a heated exchange with the umpire Tanvir Ahmed after the incident happened on the 34th over of the Indian innings when she smashed the stumps with the bat and was adjudged out by the on-field umpire. She expressed her disappointment with the umpiring standards during the post-match presentation.
She received three demerit points and also imposed a two-match suspension. Since then she has been viewed as a controversial figure in Bangladesh media and many decided to snub her during India’s tour of the country.
Defending her actions, “I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling,” said Harmanpreet Kaur.
With the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 set to begin on July 19, UAE women and Nepal women will be playing the inaugural match while India will play their opener match against Pakistan on the same day at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.
