Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined INR 30 lakh and slapped with a one-match ban after his team maintained a slow over-rate against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 17 May.
As the match against Lucknow Super Giants was the last league game for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, the ban will carry forward to the next season. Though he plays for Mumbai Indians or any other team he will be sidelined in his first match of the IPL 2025.
As it was the team’s third such offence, captain Hardik has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee while the remaining of the playing 11 along with the Impact player have to pay INR 12 lakhs or 50 per cent of their respective match fees.
“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakhs and banned from playing the team’s next match,” said an IPL media release.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 lakhs or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” the release added.
With just eight points in the 14 league games, Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs and became the first team to be eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoffs race.
Moreover, Mumbai Indians are the only team to not reach a double-digit points tally this season. With only four victories, the five-time IPL title winners ended up at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.
On the other hand, returning back to the home, Hardik Pandya was expected to make an impressive performance but the allrounder turned down all the expectations and failed to perform with both bat and ball.
