Hardik Pandya Ruled Out of World Cup 2023: Hardik Pandya who was expected to make an impact in India’s World Cup campaign was sidelined in the middle of the tournament after the allrounder injured himself in the match against Bangladesh.

The 30-year-old was bowling his first over of the match against Bangladesh when he attempted to field a ball knocked back to him by Bangladesh opener Litton Das, but instead rolled an ankle as he tumbled to the ground.

Pandya was forced from the field and took no further part in the game after being sent to hospital for scans. India star Virat Kohli took the ball to bowl out the three remaining deliveries of the over. Pandya went on to miss India’s wins over England and New Zealand.

While everyone expected Hardik to be back in India’s group matches, BCCI on Saturday morning named his replacement surprisingly.

As per a report, Pandya had left the NCA before the Sri Lanka game and had returned to Mumbai. However, he did not join the squad. It was expected that he would fly to Kolkata with the squad on Friday, but he did not.

It was being maintained that since India had already qualified for the semifinals, the team management was not in a hurry to rush him back.

BCCI named pacer Prasidh Krishna as a replacement for Hardik Pandya in the Indian squad for the ongoing World Cup 2023.

Krishna, who has played 17 ODIs, has been approved as his replacement by the ICC Technical Committee. He has picked 29 ODI wickets at an average of 25.58. He will be the fifth pace bowling option in the squad which already includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur.

Pandya took to social media later on Saturday to pass on his best wishes to his teammates as they attempt to claim a third World Cup title and second on home soil.
