Hardik Pandya Likely to lead India Squad for Sri Lanka T20Is
After starting a new journey with a resounding 4-1 victory under Shubman Gill’s captaincy against Zimbabwe, Indian fans have eyed the upcoming Sri Lanka tour which starts on July 26.
Top players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant weren’t picked for the Zimbabwe tour after a victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. But they are likely to return for the Sri Lanka series.
Hardik Pandya is expected to take up the captaincy for the upcoming tour. Meanwhile, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh are some other players from India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad who are likely to be picked by the selection committee.
Mohammed Siraj, Jaspirt Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant aren’t expected to be drafted back into the team so early. The three-match T20I series will be played between July 27 and 30 and the ODI assignment will begin on August 02. It remains uncertain about the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return for the ODI series next month.
Gautam Gambhir will begin his head coach stint from this tour. Gambhir has adopted an aggressive style when compared to cool Rahul Dravid, who ended his tenure to continue as Team India’s head coach after the end of the T20 World Cup 2024.
