Rajasthan Royals allrounder Riyan Parag who won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 84 in RR’s league game against Delhi Capitals reveals the secret behind his performance.
Riyan Parag Scored an Unbeaten 84 Against Delhi Capitals
The right-handed batter who usually receives a lot of criticism, shuts everyone with his impressive performance in RR’s second game of the season played against Delhi Capitals.
Riyan Parag scored an unbeaten 84 runs and led his team to register 185 runs at the end of 5 overs after their top-order batter failed. Parag in the final over bowled by Nortje, Parag struck 4,4,6,4,6,1 and dragged the team towards a safer zone.
Speaking on his performance, Riyan Parag said “They are settled, mom is here, she has seen the struggle, the last 3-4 years. I know what my opinion is about myself. That does not change regardless of whether I get a zero or not. That’s a lot to do with the type of season as well, I had a great domestic season and that helps.
Someone in the top four has to play the 20 overs, the wicket was keeping low and stopping, in the first game Sanju bhayya did it. I have worked very hard, the last 3 days I was in bed, I was on painkillers, I just got up today and I’m very happy”.
Speaking on the game, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first where Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler opened the inning for Rajasthan Royals.
While the duo is expected to make a steady inning, DC’s Mukesh Kumar struck earlier and dismissed dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 5 runs. Soon after his dismissal, Jaiswal’s opening partner Jos Buttler was dismissed for 11 runs by chinaman Kuldeep Yadav.
Following the RR skipper’s dismissal for 15 runs, Ashwin promoted himself to the top and contributed 29 runs for 19 balls.
Though RR batters struggled to make an impact with their bat on one end, Riyan Parag, on the other hand, scored an unbeaten 84 runs from 45 deliveries. At the end of 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals scored 185 runs for 5 wickets loss.
On the other hand, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the inning for Delhi Capitals where Nandre Burger drew the first blood by dismissing Mitchell Marsh for 23 runs. Following his dismissal, Ricky Bhui returned to the pavilion without scoring while Rishabh and Warner made a 67-run stand for the next wicket.
Delhi Capitals’ chances of registering their first victory of the season started to faint as they lost wickets at regular intervals of time. At the end of 20 overs, Delhi Capitals managed to score only 173 runs for 5 wickets and fell short of 12 runs for the victory.
With the victory, Rajasthan Royals move to the second spot in the IPL 2024 points table and stand behind the defending champions Chennai Super Kings.
Rajasthan Royals will play their next game of the season against Mumbai Indians on April 1 in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
