Gus Atkinson Named as Men’s Player of the Month for July 2024

England test debutant wins ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2024 after destructive bowling spells in their win over West Indies on home ground. Atkinson had an impressive start to his international career spearing England’s bowling attack last month.

He outmatched India’s Washington Sundar and Scotland’s Charlie Cassell for claiming the award for himself. His outstanding credentials have made him the potential successor for Legendary bowler James Anderson who retired from international cricket after picking 704 wickets.

He picked 22 wickets in the series at an average of 16.22 including a seven-wicket haul and took the Player of the Series award. Atkinson becomes the first English player to win the award after Chris Woakes who won the award in 2023.

“It is a real privilege to win the ICC Player of the Month! The start to my Test career has been unbelievable, and I never imagined achieving this level of success in my first series with England.

“I am incredibly grateful to my teammates and the fantastic environment created by Baz (Brendon McCullum) and Stokesy (Ben Stokes).

“It’s an honor to play and represent my country. I know there is a lot of hard work ahead, especially with a big series against Sri Lanka coming up. I’m excited to maintain consistency and do my best to help England succeed.” said Gus Atkinson.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2024 after a stunning run in Sri Lanka’s maiden Women’s Asia Cup crown.
