GMR, JSW Groups to Manage Delhi Capitals Operations on Rotational Basis

The GMR and JSW Sports have announced a strategic change in the management of their cricket operations for the Delhi Capitals franchise.

Starting in 2025, the GMR group will manage the operations of the DC Men’s team in the IPL, While JSW Sports will control the Women’s team in the Women’s Premier League.

The rotational approach will be in place for two years and operational duties will be interchanged for two years, after which the roles will reverse.

The arrangement is designed to optimise the management of both teams, allowing each ownership group to bring its unique expertise to the table. Despite the operational switch, all major cricketing decisions including auctions, captaincy and player retention, will continue to be overseen by the Delhi Capitals Board.

GMR group was one of the original franchise owners when the league launched in 2008, founding the team then known as the Delhi Daredevils. The franchise underwent a name change in 2019, becoming the Delhi Capitals after acquiring a 50-50 partnership.

Since 2008, the Delhi-based franchise has been part of the Indian Premier League but is yet to win their maiden title in the tournament. In 2019, the team registered their best performance, ending the season as runners-up.

The Capitals went one better in 2020, making the final of the IPL for the first time in the franchise’s history. The women’s team which was acquired in 2023, has made it to the final of both editions of the women’s Premier League thus far.

In addition to the Indian men’s and women’s IPL teams, the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 League will continue to be run by GMR Group and the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 South African League will be run by JSW Sports.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals has appointed Hemang Badoni as Delhi Capitals Head Coach and Venugopal Rao has been named as DC’s director of cricket.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals franchise is likely to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

With October 31 being the deadline for the franchise to reveal retentions, Rishabh Pant‘s future with the team remains uncertain. With the reports suggesting the franchise will retain Pant, it cannot be said further for sure.
