The openers failed to create an impression as they were sent out with low figures. Gurbaz scored 11 runs and sent out by Matt Henry while Ibrahim Zadran was sent out with 14 runs by Trent Boult.

Hashmatullah Shahidi was sent out with 8 runs by Lockie Ferguson. With his dismissal of Shahidi, Afghanistan was down to last seven wickets scoring only 95 runs on 25 overs.

Azmatullah Omarzai scored 27 runs and was sent out with Trent Boult and Ikram Alikhil scored 19* runs. Other batters were sent out with low figures by the intense bowling attack from New Zealand bowlers.

Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson dismissed three wickets each while Trent Boult dismissed two wickets. By the end, Afghanistan scored 139 runs losing all 10 wickets on 35th over. Glenn Phillips was named as the Player of the Match.

The New Zealand players Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips pair had a score of 144 runs and stands second in the highest partnership for 5th wkts or below for New Zealand in WC.

While speaking after the match he said, “The Afghanistan spinners are incredibly talented and strong. Was really pleasing to see me and Tom go well in the middle after losing a few early. It was really good the way we batted here, especially on a dusty track here.”

“Was great how we were able to take it down till the end and get the runs. We thought we’d be able to get 60 off the last 6 if we both were out there. The way Chapman and Santner finished it off was amazing. Thought that around 250 would’ve been par.”

“We’re in an environment where we keep working for each other and play as a team. It’s about understanding what you can do for your mate and him understanding what he can do for you. We understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses really well.”

New Zealand will be playing their next match against the hosts on October 22 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium.
